How to report on reports and dashboards

Did you know that Salesforce lets you build a custom report type so you can get a lot more detail about your reports - when they were last run, what field types they use, whether or not they're in a dashboard and more!

In this example, let's say you want to figure out how many reports were run in the last year that used Households in its report type and if so, if it was used in a dashboard.

Create a new Custom Report Type in Setup

Create a new Custom Report Type in Setup

Click New Custom Report Type

Set up as shown and click Next.

Click the button to relate another object so you can get Dashboard information too

Select Dashboard Components. Important: Be sure to select "A" records may or may not have related "B" records. If you don't select this option you'll only get reports that are used in dashboards in your results.

Run your report!

Add filters and columns just like you would any other report.
